About
Magnetar Medical Devices Ltd. is a lean startup with a patent-pending electrical transdermal patch. This platform technology is suitable for approximately 20 drugs currently requiring injections. We have conducted extensive laboratory investigations, including a study providing partial Proof-of-Concept with the synthetic morphine, hydromorphone. In the treatment of moderate-to-severe acute post-operative pain, our technology has the ability to replace IV infusion equipment for patient-controlled anaesthesia (PCA) in hospital settings. Annually, 12 million US hospital in-patients experience such pain, with a further 7 million in-patients experiencing same from non-surgical medical conditions. Janssen Cilag offered a similar patch -Ionsys- containing the synthetic morphine fentanyl, which had its marketing authorisation withdrawn due to a design flaw, despite promising initial sales. Currently-available fentanyl pain patches cannot address acute pain.
